As part of the “ms16 | Flexible Moving Systems” course at Fachhochschule Potsdam, we explored techniques for creating dynamic and flexible designs. Inspired by American Indian Design & Decoration by Le Roy H. Appleton, I felt a deep connection to the patterns, which resonated with me as a native Guatemalan.
For my project, I reimagined Guatemala’s traditional textiles in contemporary styles, aiming to draw attention to the Ixchel Museum for Indigenous Textiles in Guatemala City. By modernizing these vibrant patterns and infusing them with motion, I created designs intended for social media, posters, and public displays. My goal was to attract a diverse audience and invite them to engage with Guatemala’s rich cultural heritage in a fresh and dynamic way.
The following video was adapted for the Werkschau—a work showcase event at Fachhochschule Potsdam where students present their creative projects—in the summer of 2024. It was also created for various formats, including social media posts, reels, infoscreens, and DIN posters that could be activated with AR.
